Purebred Registered Jerseys

Jersey Acres Farms has been family owned and operated since 1911. Located in Schuylkill County on preserved farmland, our diversified farm operation consists of a roadside produce market with everything from apples to watermelons, a winery doing business under the name of “Stone Mountain Wine Cellars”, and a dairy milking over two hundred registered Jersey cows.

The memory of the late 3rd generation Ralph Heffner begins with a smaller herd of twelve cows. When the bull pen was moved, the herd grew to fifteen. By the time the horses and chickens left, the herd stood at twenty-five.

In the mid-1960’s, the herd rose to fifty-two with the construction of a new single-story barn complete with a glass pipeline and two silos. This is the current heifer barn that visitors may spot from the road. Eventually the original two-story red barn was again reworked to hold an additional forty cows with pipeline. With this expansion in the 1960s, Jersey Acres Farms purchased cows to bring the herd to ninety-two. Since then, the herd “closed.” Every cow in the modern-day herd is descended from these dairy cows.

In 2003, the farm converted from a tie-stall system to a milking parlor with free-stall housing. This required a new site and construction of a completely new dairy facility, which is located towards the mountain behind the older barns. The parlor is a double 12 with 150 free stalls.
